Michael Pahl’s devotional piece on Romans 8:31–39

A meditation given on Sunday, September 22, 2013, at Tabor Home, a personal care home in Morden, Manitoba. The Scripture text is Romans 8:31-39.

The first deep question about God we all ask is, “Does God exist?” That’s not an easy question to answer, but most of us do end up answering, “Yes.” Most often we look at the grandeur of the natural world, and this points us to a Creator. To use Paul’s words in Romans 1, we see the “eternal power and divine nature” of God in creation, that there is a God and this God is powerful.

Rom 8 31But the second deep question about God, and the harder one to answer, is this: “Is God good?” To put this question another way: “Is God on our side? Is God for us, or against us?”
